Why Ilizarov?
Ilizarov Method is a Surgery involving a special orthopaedic external fixator ( called Ilizarov external fixator) applied to the limb to reconstruct, reshape or lengthen bone .
It was named after Prof G. A. Ilizarov who invented this revolutionary fixator.
Indications of Ilizarov Surgery:
- Open fracture / Comminuted fractures/ Peri articular fracture
- Non union / Pseudoarthrosis
- Malunion
- Correction of Deformity ( congenital/Post traumatic )
- Joint contracture
- Limb lengthening
- Bone loss ( due to tumour / infection/ trauma )
- Infection
- Peripheral Vascular disease
